Performance Enhancing Socks

sock features

Introduction

Our feet are one of the most important features of elite level athletic performance, through the actions of the legs, feet, and toes athletes maintain balance, both while the body is moving and when it is at rest. We at Gitch felt that we needed to build our performance enhancing line from the feet up. We purchased various socks from top companies on the market in various sports but found few that live up to the promises on the box. We knew that we needed a product that will benefit players on the ice, during dry land training and while recovering. As a result we turned to compression socks. While talking to some of the industry’s leading therapists and doctors we realized that the only way we will be effective is to have gradual 20 – 30 mmHg compression, because anything below that has as much effect as freshly washed cotton socks.

Our socks feature gradual compression starting at the ankle. This allows increased blood flow to the muscles aiding in removing lactic acid and bringing more oxygen, which improves endurance of the muscle in the exercise stage and in muscle rejuvenation during the recovery stage.

Another feature that is unique to our product is the ankle support band. It stabilizes the foot, reduces the risk of sprains, and improves performance as it allows the foot to stay more balanced. This is also great for athletes with ankle sprains as it aids with recovery by keeping the foot compressed and stable.

Our specific knitted heal and foot bed area provides impact protection and cushioning of the foot. It also allows a better fit in the shoe or skate. The custom knit provides moisture wicking capabilities keeping the foot dry and cool while exercising. The wide toe box allows toes to spread out for added balance. Most of the socks are not designed for this feature as they keep the toes close together, reducing athletes balance and ability to generate maximum output as the contact area stays narrower than with Gitch socks.

Gitch Performance enhancing compression socks can help in the following key areas; performance, recovery after sport, injury rehabilitation, conditioning, day wear and travel.

Performance

While various companies offer compression clothing for performance, we at Gitch realize that only medical grade graduated compression is clinically proven to improve blood flow. Some of the benefits include:

  • Improved venous return which allows blood to take away waste products such as lactic acid and bring oxygen back to the muscle
  • Supports calf muscles by reducing muscle vibration on the muscle fibers and allows them to work together for greater output
  • Aids in temperature regulation using wicking agents in the sock and specific ventilation areas
  • Aids in foot stability with our ankle support band

When wearing our socks they will improve performance by supporting the calf and ankle and allowing improved blood circulation. Our socks were designed for various ranges of athletes such as:

  • Ice Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Soccer
  • Football
  • Cross fit
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Tennis and other racquet sports
  • Golf
  • Cycling and many others

Recovery

Recovery is one of the most key aspects of an elite athletes training program, but a lot of amateur athlete are simply unaware of it or take it for granted. Recognizing that lack of recovery may lead to injuries, low levels of adaptation to training regiments, and poor performance. Gitch performance enhancing socks allow you to integrate it into you training programs and close the gap on this unknown benefit. By improving blood flow, the body is able to recover quicker and more efficiently than without.

When To Wear

Gitch socks can be worn straight after exercise to gain these benefits. For best results they should be worn for a minimum of 2-3 hours. The benefits are:

  • Reduces DOMS – (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), so there is less soreness and stiffness in your legs the next day
  • Helps to flush waste products that are generated by the muscles during exercise
  • Reduces exercise related swelling

Injury Rehab

Injuries will always be a part of sports. Sprains and more serious injuries cause teams and athletes to lose the ability to perform at their highest level.

R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) is a standard procedure that most team and sport therapists will follow. Gitch Performance Enhancing Socks provide compression that allows the fluids to travel up and out of the leg, as a result reducing swelling significantly. This is very useful in the following conditions:

  • Ankle sprains – for support and to reduce swelling
  • Calf tears/strains

Travel

Travel is a major part of any athlete’s life and has an enormous impact on athletes’ performance.

Sports are not played on the couch. Some athletes travel all over the country or the world. Travel times can vary greatly and cause a variety of stresses on the body. Travel takes many forms on the bus, car or plane, all of which cause various risks to the athletes’ health and their ability to perform in competition.

Here are some of the problems that may occur:

  • Enforced immobility
  • Seated posture when sleeping
  • Seated posture – leading to pressure on the leg veins, reduced venous return and hence swollen legs and ankles and increased risk of DVT

Travel induced Odema may cause blood pooling in muscle tissues. These fluids are affected by gravity and gather due to immobility. Most of the time travel-induced Odema happens in ankles and legs. To move the pooled blood in leg muscles away, one must constantly contract their muscles.

Gitch compression socks assist in very specific ways to avoid these problems. By compressing calf muscles, blood is forced out of the legs and back to the heart allowing elite athletes to perform better in competition.
